Cultural Industries

Policies implemented by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and public corporations under the authority of the Minister have transformed Québec’s cultural landscape.

To support the cultural industries, the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles, the SODEC, provides these companies with the financial tools they need to create, produce, distribute and export their works.

The Association québécoise de l’industrie du disque, du spectacle et de la video (Québec Association for the record, entertainment and video industry), known as the ADISQ, was created in 1978 to promote Québec’s music industry.

In the field of cinema, the mandate of the Cinémathèque québécoise is to promote Québec’s film and television heritage. The National Film Board of Canada (NFB), a federal Crown corporation, pursues the same mission in Québec.

Télé-Québec, the Société de télédiffusion du Québec, operates a broadcasting company across the province. The Société, founded in 1968, is authorized to produce, co-produce, acquire and disseminate a range of educational and cultural programs.
